Animation:
Psalm 29

Phase #1

This project was part of a larger effort to animate Psalm 29. I was assigned verse 1. Getting one verse didn’t give me a lot of room to play around, but I had the responsibility to set the tone with a strong opening.

I knew early on that my plan would incorporate both 3D modeling and illustration, but before I got there, I  started with a storyboard. It’s fairly messy, but this was more about getting the vision I had in my head out on paper as soon as I could.

After making the storyboard, I sequenced the frames in After Effects to make an animatic.

Phase 1 Animatic

Clouds made seperately in Krita, then imported to After Effects.
 Frame-by-frame lightning animation
3D model for the orb section. The “noodles” that travel over the orb in the final animation were made frame-by-frame in Krita
Hand-drawn text, digitally scanned

Phase #2

Animation took several stages. The orb with the rings was 3D modeled, while the rest was a combination of frame-by-frame done in Krita and animation effects done in After Effects.

Phase #3

After a couple of weeks of hard work, the animation was complete!
This was one of my first times using After Effects, and throughout the process, I learned a lot. This project is a great demonstration of how quickly I can pick up new software and incorporate many skills in a single project.
